BASIC COURSE IN JUDAISM – SEMESTER 1
Welcome to an introductory course that conveys basic knowledge of some of Judaism’s central concepts: culture, holidays, history, religion, ethics and rituals. We explore basic ideas such as Shabbat (the day for resting), Yom tov (holidays), Halacha (Jewish law), Kashrut (food rules), Brit mila (circumcision), and more.
If the words do not tell you anything today, during the course you will gain an increased insight into what they mean and understand their meaning for Jewish identity. The course emphasizes discussing texts and being true to the Jewish proverb: “Where there are two Jews, there are three different opinions”.
The course is given in English, in collaboration with the Jewish Community in Stockholm.
Course structure
As part of the course, there’s an included study visit to Stockholm Stora synagoga with a following Shabbat dinner. Note that the cost for the dinner is not included in the regular course cost.
Course literature
Course material is included in the course cost. Other reading recommendations may be provided by the teacher, and to be purchased by the participants.
Extra costs apply for food and drinks during the Shabbat dinner, if you attend.
