Join us on an incredible traveling journey! During 5 meetings we will culturally discover Israel together . These places will be: Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Kibbutzim, Eilat and Nazareth.
Jerusalem – Jerusalem is generally regarded as a center of spirituality. But it’s also a city with full of dynamic, culture, nightlife, festivals and much more. We will talk about Jerusalem by day and night what happen outside the old city? What’s it like to live in Jerusalem for non religious? What make Jerusalem as a place for young people all around Israel to come and study there? What is the nightlige like in a religious city? We are also going to talk about the famous market Machane Yehuda – full of shops selling breads, fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and dry goods during the day. Shoppers pull their shopping carts through the crowded lanes as they stock up on the goods that they need for their household use. At night, Machane Yehuda turns into a hot spot where you can find any type of restaurant, pub, dance club or other social venue that suits you.
Tel Aviv – For all its charms and delights as a hedonistic, on-the-go, 24/7 destination for the young and young of heart, Tel Aviv is also Israel’s center for the cultural. Art galleries, outdoor graffiti, performance spaces, concerts in large-capacity halls and theaters . We will talk about Tel Aviv of today, and Jaffa the old part of Tel aviv as a unique and special culture place .
Kibbutzim – What is a kibbutz? And why is a type of settlement that is unique to Israel? There are over 270 kibbutzim in Israel and they have diversified greatly since their agricultural beginnings, with many now privatized. Regardless of their status, the kibbutzes offers a unique insight into Israeli society, and are fascinating places to visit.
Eilat – We will talk about what Eilat offers more than a vacation. Eilat has over 10 international festivals held annually in the city, in addition to countless musical performances, exhibitions, theater performances, stand-up comedy events, food and art events and international sport competitions. Another major Eilat event is Eilat Red Sea – an international underwater photography competition, which is also called “the Underwater Photography Olympics”. During the competition the city hosts dozens of professional and amateur photographers from around the world, who compete in a variety of categories. On the last day of the festival, an open exhibition is held, showing the best photographs of the year.
Nazareth – One of the best known towns in the world as Christians believe that it marks the spot where the Virgin Mary was brought the news by the Angel Gabriel, that God had chosen her to bear his son. But in Nazareth there is many more things to see and to know . In the Old City of Nazareth there is a local market with authentic wares including fabrics, foods and spices. The Nabi Sain promenade offers spectacular views over the Galilee, while the ancient Turkish bath house and Ottoman manor house features fascinating displays of riches and frescoes. We will talk about Nazareth of past and today, the life and the culture between Jewish, Christian and Muslims, the special places and the area around.
About the teacher
Joni (Jonatan) Sanderovitch is 31 years old, born and raised in Israel. He served in the Intelligence unit in the IDF and studied geography and Israel Studies at the University of Haifa. He now work as a licensed tour guide in Israel and used to be the Shaliach on behalf of The Jewish Agency in Stockholm.
