The Music of Jewish Prayer
We will dive into the world of Jewish prayer and explore it through music. We will gain an understanding of the structure of prayer, and the way music is used in order to embellish and enrich it. The goal is to make synagogal prayer accessible and comfortable for anyone. Synagogal guided visits will be encouraged. In each session we will explain the structure of a specific prayer, in different holidays/occasions.
We will explore different musical themes that relate to specific occasions.
The course will focus on the Ashkenazi tradition (east and west), but some Sephardi music and concepts will be presented and discussed.
Ability to read the Hebrew alphabet is recommended, but not required.
Course material is included in the fee for this course.
The course is given in collaboration with the Jewish Community in Stockholm.
